AZAZEL JACOBS PRESENTS
DETAILS
His Three Daughters, the new film by writer-director Azazel Jacobs, stars Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne, and Elizabeth Olsen in a tense, touching, and funny portrait of family dynamics about three estranged sisters as they converge in a New York apartment to care for their ailing father — and try to mend their own broken relationships with one another in the process. In this special series, Azazel Jacobs presents a collection of films that strongly influenced the emotional depths of his work.
From the volatile family relationships that emerge in Peter Hedges' 2003 Pieces of April as strong-willed characters converge around their family’s dying matriarch (played in an Academy Award-nominated performance by Patricia Clarkson), to the unique comic sensibility of Michael Roemer's The Plot Against Harry, and the ferocity of the great Gena Rowlands' lead performance in John Cassavetes' Opening Night, the echoes of these inspirations reverberate throughout His Three Daughters. Stellar works from cinema greats Éric Rohmer (Boyfriends and Girlfriends), Alan Parker (Shoot the Moon), and Dennis Hopper (Out of the Blue) also feature in this series, alongside Jacobs’ previous film French Exit, starring a magnificent Michelle Pfeiffer.
