The Egyptian Theater is wishing a happy 30th to some of the most iconic films of 1994 with the return of our Milestone Movies: The Anniversary Collection series. Beginning Tuesday, July 22, don’t miss your chance to look back at an era when smash-hit studio productions and auteur-driven indie projects alike became cultural sensations, and influenced a generation of movie-making.

Hollywood brought us films in ’94 that remain deeply embedded in our cultural memory, be it Robert Zemeckis’ endlessly quoted Best Picture winner Forrest Gump, or the word-of-mouth sleeper hit of that year, The Shawshank Redemption. Meanwhile, young filmmakers and indie auteurs created distinctive works that expertly captured the mood of the early 90s, including Whit Stillman (Barcelona), Kevin Smith (Clerks) and Ben Stiller’s Reality Bites. See them all as if for the first time on the big screen!

And be sure not to miss the year’s unforgettable work from internationally acclaimed auteurs, like Wong Kar Wai’s Chungking Express, Gillian Armstrong’s moving adaptation of Little Women, Tim Burton’s massively entertaining Ed Wood, and the recently re-discovered Cold Water by the great Olivier Assayas.
