Society of the Snow & The Orphanage

TICKETS
SYNOPSIS
Both anchored in a history and cinematic aesthetic of the 1970s, J.A. Bayona’s Society of the Snow and The Orphanage each pack an emotional punch. In addition to activating our fear of the unknown, Bayona's tales remind us that by enduring the trauma, one must also face the guilt borne by those that live. From the apparitions and unseen terrors of our imagination, to the very real (and real-life) horrors of survival against the odds (and the unthinkable alternatives), J.A. Bayona is a master storyteller, no matter the genre or language.

SOCIETY OF THE SNOW (2h 24m)
Dir. J.A. Bayona
Starring Agustin Pardella, Esteban Kukuriczka, Francisco Romero
In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which had been chartered to fly a rugby team to Chile, crashed in the heart of the Andes. Only 29 of its 45 passengers survived the accident. Trapped in one of the most hostile and inaccessible environments on the planet, they have to resort to extreme measures to stay alive.

THE ORPHANAGE (1h 54m)
Dir. J.A. Bayona
Starring Belen Rueda, Fernando Cayo, Roger Princep
Laura (Belén Rueda) has happy memories of her childhood in an orphanage. She convinces her husband to buy the place and help her convert it into a home for sick children. One day, her own adopted son, Simón (Roger Príncep), disappears. Simon is critically ill, and when he is still missing several months later, he is presumed dead. Grief-stricken Laura believes she hears spirits, who may or may not be trying to help her find the boy.
