West Cost Premiere!
AUTISTIC-LIKE: GRAHAM’S STORY
, 2009, 49 min. Dir. Erik Linthorst. An intimate family portrait about a father’s determined quest to find the right therapy, the right doctors and even the right words to describe his son. When their son was just 17 month old, Erik and Jennie Linthhorst suspected something was not quite right. Experts and therapists told them their son was autistic. Sort of. Maybe. Some called him austistic-like. Others said he was not autistic at all. With his parents still seeking a clear diagnosis, Graham was launched into a program of behavioral therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy. Soon after the therapy began, Erik and Jennie noticed something else: the treatment he was getting didn’t seem to be on target. Erik took on the conundrum confronting many parents of kids who are "mildly disordered" Handed a fuzzy diagnosis, what should the treatment be? As he searched, Erik began wondering how other families fared in the same situation. What did it really mean, ‘autistic-like" and how should these parents help their kids? "This film is a gem! A brilliant reminder that by watching closely and looking for what works parent can find the right helps for their child" Carol Kranowitz, MA, Author. The Out of Sync Child. www.autisticlike.com

May - MICKEY ROONEY IN PERSON TRIBUTE

Few actors have as long and varied a Hollywood career as Mickey Rooney, whose resume includes everything from family classics (THE BLACK STALLION, NATIONAL VELVET) to hard-hitting adult dramas (REQUIEM FOR A HEAVYWEIGHT) and outrageous comedies (IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD). These and other audience favorites will be presented as part of the American Cinematheque's salute to Mickey Rooney, one of the most beloved movie stars in history. Rooney first became known to the public while under contract at MGM, where he starred in the wildly successful ANDY HARDY series as well as BOYS TOWN and BABES IN ARMS. As he matured as an actor, Rooney grew into more substantial roles on television (THE COMEDIAN) and in films that included musicals and gangster pictures as well as sober character studies. He has remained active to the present day in modern hits like A NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM, Rooney will appear at the Aero to introduce and discuss some of his finest work.

April 16 – 19, 2009 - THE FRENCH MUSIC COMPOSERS GO TO HOLLYWOOD

Everyone knows that the French have given the world some its finest directors courtesy of the New Wave and later movements, but perhaps even more influential are the French composers who have created indelible compositions over the years. In the post-New Wave era, dozens of these artists have left their home country to generate scores for Hollywood, and the results have been remarkable: Georges Delerue went from scoring Truffaut and Godard classics to creating the powerful music in PLATOON, Michel Legrand swapped Jacques Demy musicals for sophisticated romantic action in THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR, and Maurice Jarre gave the world some of the greatest scores of all time in a series of films for director David Lean. These composers and others will be showcased at the Aero's "French Music Composers Go to Hollywood" series, which will also include more contemporary work by Michel Colombier (AGAINST ALL ODDS) and Alexandre Desplat (SYRIANA, CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON).

THE AERO THEATRE:

The Aero Theatre and its adjoining retail spaces, built in the style of French Norman architecture, by Donald W. Douglas of Douglas Aircraft fame, opened for business on January 10, 1940. The theatre, designed by architect R.M. Woolpert,

operated with a small staff, seven nights per week. Aero programming consisted of double features (that changed three times weekly), Kiddie Matinees and drawings for sets of depression glass dishes prior to the Saturday night show.
