Encounters at the Edge of Sanity: A Tribute to the Films of Werner Herzog

This is an Egyptian Theatre Exclusive!

The films of director Werner Herzog are a mesmerizing combination of spiritual self-isolation, obsession with the natural world, and the beautiful dance of slowly creeping insanity - "Every man for himself, and God against all," as one title puts it. Notorious for his own acts of Ahab-like rebellion - dragging a ship across a mountain for FITZCARRALDO, hypnotizing the cast of HEART OF GLASS - Herzog has written and produced nearly all of his own films, defying not only nature but also the industry. Please join us for a tribute to the acclaimed German director with a two-night double feature program of NOSFERATU THE VAMPYRE and COBRA VERDE, and STROSZEK and WOYZECK.

We are thrilled to welcome Werner Herzog to the Egyptian Theatre!

Saturday, March 20 – 7:30 PM

Werner Herzog In Person! Double Feature: NOSFERATU, THE VAMPYRE, 1979, I, 107 min. An homage to Murnau’s 1922 classic, Herzog’s NOSFERATU achieves its own hypnotic power by evoking a romantic past, aided by the eerie sensuality of Klaus Kinski’s performance. In German with English subtitles. View trailer

COBRA VERDE, 1987, 518 Media, 111 min. Klaus Kinski plays the ruthless bandit Cobra Verde, who is banished to Africa and finds himself the only white man in a hostile environment. After enduring excruciating torture, he rallies to form a guerrilla army. Director Werner Herzog's last artistic collaboration with Kinski.View trailer Discussion between films with Werner Herzog (schedule permitting).
