Volunteer Spotlight:
Meet the incredible, wonderful people who volunteer their time who power the Cinematheque! Each month we will spotlight a different volunteer. To join our volunteer program apply here.

2009-04-12-VALERIEW.jpg (6784 bytes)
I began volunteering for the American Cinematheque in November, 1999. I enjoy volunteering for many reasons; first, being exposed to so many films that I otherwise would never have heard of or seen if not for the Cinematheque. Over the years, I have had an opportunity to see Q&A's with film makers and talent. Also, I have made many new friends; when someone complains that they can not meet quality people, I encourage them to volunteer. In exchange for volunteering, I get a free popcorn, a free drink, and a free movie or two; you can not beat this deal!
-- Valerie Zelinka

You too can Volunteer!

Parking Concerns at the Egyptian:
As many of you have noticed, the meters south of Hollywood Boulevard have gone up to $2/hour and you can only park at a meter for ONE hour (hardly enough time to take in a movie, dinner or to go clubbing!). The meters are now monitored until midnight on weekends. In addition, the area lots are often $20 on weekends. If you have an opinion on this, please voice your concerns to the following organizations:

Leron Gubler, President and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce 323/469-8311 ext 12

Eric Garcetti, Councilperson 13th District, Los Angeles

West Coast premiere at Redcat June 11 - 21

WoosterRedcat.jpg (9618 bytes)
The Wooster Group's production of Francesco Cavalli's La Didone takes up a work from the days when opera was an emerging art form, born out of the power of the voice and the lute in pure acoustic space, and sets it down in a new world splintered by telepresence and made brazen by the electric guitar.

Then, traveling further forward in time, and stirring another Italian cultural artifact into the mix, the Group brings into collision the ancient shipwreck tale of Aeneas with the crashed spaceships of Mario Bava's 1965 low-budget sci-fi horror film Terrore nello spazio (Planet of the Vampires).

American Cinematheque Members will get a special ticket discount for this event at the Redcat Theatre. Details will be e-mailed to members.
